This first week has certainly flown by! The interns were able to get together for dinner Monday night before orientation at a restaurant named Tonic, where we got to learn more about one another before our initiation into the program.

It feels really weird to be writing one of these after reading so many within the past year, but I am so excited to share my journey here this summer.

After a few months of anticipating the start of the internship, we are all finally here in DC! This week has been a lot of juggling around with the internship, making new friends, and doing school. The joys of being on the quarter system meant my classes do not end until mid-June.

It’s a bit of a strange feeling, writing this blog from my dorm in Hamilton, NY, instead of Amsterdam Hall. I had definitely become very used to life in D.C., and having all the other interns around. The last week went by in no time, even though we did quite a bit.

The final week of the internship has come to a close and I have arrived safely in Illinois after 14 hours on the road. After all 10 weeks, I must say I had a fantastic summer. During the final week, there was a lot of finishing up to do but also a lot of preparing to say goodbyes.

Hi y’all! This will be my last blog of the SPS summer internship. This summer has been among the most challenging of my life. I witnessed the failure of our government to properly meet the needs of our people.
