Biography
Dr. David H. Loyd, Jr., along with Dr. H. Ray Dawson and Dr. C. Varren Parker, are recognized for their outstanding dedication and support of Sigma Pi Sigma at Angelo State University and the commitment to the success of the Angelo State Department of Physics.
The summative service of these three individuals to the department approaches 100 years. Their long term dedication as professors to take extra time to excite physics students to go beyond what is expected is evident in a long list of successful graduates in a wide variety of chosen career paths. Their classes pushed the limits of the students to really engage themselves into the material and to learn it permanently. In their commitment to the longevity and success of the Physics Department, these professors taught many majors courses voluntarily, on top of their full load of service courses in an effort to sustain the majors.
These three men, exhibiting unparalleled foresight, created the environment and curriculum that has made the ASU physics department so successful. In addition, they dedicated extra hours to our local SPS chapter and Sigma Pi Sigma chapter to plant the seeds that have grown over the years to be the well founded culture within our department today. It was through their selfless efforts to insure the viability of our program than much of what we enjoy today in our department is possible. Their sacrifices and insight laid the foundation on which our current and future success is based. Their willingness to mentor not only the students, but the young faculty as well, serves as a model for all of us.
