University of North Alabama
2014
Jocelynn Bell Burnell Outstanding Leadership Scholarship
I am a Junior Physics major at the University of North Alabama. Through my time at UNA I have served as both the treasurer and president of the university's SPS chapter. Upon entering the chapter, I played a major role in putting the small chapter on the map by organizing the chapter's first ever trip to a national SPS congress in 2012. I have also worked with the chapter on outreach and fundraising projects throughout the year and my goal for the next school year is to increase the chapter's membership. Through research at UNA, I have had the opportunity to study cD Galaxies using the Hubble Legacy Archive and work on groundbreaking research in the quantum mechanical study of endohedral fullerenes. In areas outside of physics, I have held major campus positions such as a student senator, university programming council chairman, student ambassador, resident assistant, and the president of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity at UNA. My plans for the future are to apply for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship and study at Cambridge England.
