Luciano Manfredi

Biography

I am an international student from Argentina at Loyola Marymount University (LMU), pursuing a double degree in Physics and Pure Mathematics. In 2015 I reestablished the SPS chapter at LMU, and served since then as its President. My main aim is to create a community of engaged physics students by encouraging group research projects and organizing conference trips. My career goal is to contribute to the current understanding of nature, and understand what does quantum gravity tell us about Black Holes (BHs), information, and the universe. So far in my three years of undergraduate I have completed three research projects, all of which were concerned with the study of BHs in alternative gravity theories. Firstly, we proceeded to calculate the shadow of a Generalized Uncertainty Principle (GUP) inspired BH. Secondly, we found the cross section for microscopic BH production in High Energy Particle collisions as described by the Horizon Wavefunction Formalism of a GUP inspired metric. Lastly, we calculated the Quasi Normal Modes for a STVG MOdified Gravity (MOG) BH, which has the potential to be tested experimentally with LIGO data of the ringdown phase in detected gravitational waves. Apart from research I serve as a Teaching Assistant for both the Physics and Math departments, work as a Student Liaison for the Center for Student Success and was elected as Treasurer for our Student Government. Finally, something very important to me that I live by is the philosophy of giving back. For this reason, after pursuing a PhD in Mathematical Physics I intend to become a research professor so as to share the knowledge I gained, thanks to the support and trust that was placed on me, with future generations.
