High Point University
2015
SPS Leadership Scholarship
I am a senior at High Point University studying physics, math, and computer science. In 2014, I joined SPS and was elected Vice President. I have participated in numerous physics outreach events including HPUniverse Day, which brought more than 1,000 parents, and children to our department to do astronomy related activities. This year, we designed and built demonstrations including a hovercraft to use in outreach events and fundraisers. I am also the team leader of the HPU Panther CLAWS Team, which was accepted to NASA's Micro-g Neutral Buoyancy Experiment Design Teams (Micro-g NExT). Our team is building a device called a "Chip 'n' Ship" that will chip and collect samples from asteroids. We will test the device in the Neutral Buoyancy Lab at Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX in August 2015. In summer 2015 I will participate in research at CERN through the REU program at Nevis Labs, Columbia University. After completing my undergraduate degree I hope to pursue a graduate degree in either physics or engineering.
