Collins Kariuki

Biography

I am a rising senior at Pomona College majoring in Computer Science and Physics. I am an international student from Nairobi, Kenya. As a physics major, I have learned a lot, from quantum physics to thermodynamics. Still, I realize that none of my learning would be worthwhile without the physics community and our interaction to understand diversity, equity, and inclusion in the physics field. I am deeply interested in computational physics. This summer (2023), I'll be simulating the extrapolated structure between the cubic and non-cubic symmetries of thick-film cubic Sr3OsO6 using Density Functional Theory (DFT). I am interested in building web applications, learning new programming languages, and human-computer interaction. After I graduate, I plan on pursuing condensed matter physics, specifically superconducting magnets, in graduate school. In my free time, I like to watch and play soccer and build fun software projects.
