LLNL-AIP Leadership Scholarship
My name is Emma Hataway and I am a rising junior at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, OR. I am a Physics and Mathematics double major, and have loved being involved with my SPS chapter and our zone for my first two years at college. I am currently running for AZC for my zone, in fact! On campus, my chapter hosts multiple events such as our fall semester pumpkin launch, a Pi Day celebration in spring, observatory nights on clear nights, or our weekly study/hangout meeting. Our goal is to involve other disciplines at our liberal arts school in the subject of physics, as we are all passionate about the fact that physics is for everyone. Off campus, we attend zone meetings, such as my first zone meeting, freshman year at UofO in Eugene, OR, or this year's at UW in Seattle, WA. In the two more years I have with my chapter, I am excited to continue the events that we always do, but also to expand our involvement further, such as participating in more outreach to local schools. After undergraduate college, I hope to go to graduate school in physics or engineering. I am uncertain as to what specific career I would like to pursue, but I love to work with my hands, wrap my mind around hard concepts, problem solve, and apply math to real world problems. I greatly look forward to learning more information through all I do, be it more physics in school or networking with SPS!
