Light: A Spectrum of Utility (2014-15)
In an effort to unite the International Year of Crystallography and the International Year of Light, the 2014-15 SOCK features elements of each of these areas, and brings the concept of Light: A Spectrum of Utility to life. Students will explore how we use light on a daily basis, and what it can tell us about matter and its structure through 8 activities ranging from determining the structure of a CD with lasers, to creating their own “stained glass” masterpieces using polarization.
Note: All 2014-15 SOCKs have been distributed. SPS SOCKs are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis among the eligible requests. Approximately 25 are available each year.
