SPS Outstanding Chapter Advisor

Mark Siemens received a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2009 and was a National Research Council postdoctoral associate at the NIST. He joined the faculty at the University of Denver (DU) in 2010, where he is now an associate professor. His research on twisted light and coherent spectroscopy has been funded by 5 NSF grants, including a CAREER award. From 2018 – 2019 he served as the director of DU's Undergraduate Research Center where he raised the profile of undergraduate research.
He has served as advisor of DU's SPS chapter since 2011, during which time the group has grown in numbers, activities, and especially outreach activities. The SPS group has been recognized as an Outstanding Chapter (2015, 2018) and received the Blake Lilly Prize (2015, 2018), and was recognized as the DU Student organization of the year (2015). Dr. Siemens and SPS are known for their hands-on K-12 outreach at local schools and public venues such as the March for Science and Elitch Gardens amusement park.
