Nikos Dokmetzoglou is currently a senior physics major and mathematics minor at Davidson College. He has been active in the Davidson Chapter of the Society of Physics Students since the beginning of his Davidson career and he is currently its president. In the past he held the office of Vice President of Professional Affairs, and while in that position he organized a mentoring program that connected physics majors with younger students interested in physics and encouraged community building. In addition, he arranged Physics GRE Subject Test preparation sessions taught by the physics department faculty. Nikos conducted research on quantum mechanics under the guidance of Dr. Mario Belloni during the summer of 2015 and spring of 2016. This project involved utilizing Mathematica and its parallel processing capabilities to study the behavior of the momentum-space wavefunctions of different 1D, 2D and 3D quantum systems for large values of momentum. This past summer he studied quantum field theory under Dr. Savan Kharel and calculated 4-point and 5-point gluon scattering amplitudes using recursion relations in both flat space and anti-de Sitter (AdS) space. Nikos plans to pursue a PhD in theoretical physics after graduating from Davidson College.
