Brooke is a Junior at the University of Tennessee in the Physics and Astronomy department. She has been a member of the Society of Physics Students since 2014 and is the current Special Events Coordinator for our chapter. She has helped to put on various activities within the organization. Some examples include coordinating a Pumpkin Drop which was covered by several different local news stations, as well as starting a monthly “Lunch and Learn” program, where students and faculty sit down over lunch in a casual environment to talk about research and better get to know each other. She has also played a major role in organizing this year’s Zone 8 Meeting and Retreat. Outside of SPS, She founded and currently is president of our departmental Women in Physics (WiP) organization, which focuses on connecting women in our department. WiP also encourages minority participation in departmental and SPS events. She is especially active in the University of Tennessee’s Commission for Women in STEM. She is currently helping the Commission organize their most popular event, the yearly Women In STEM Research Symposium. She is a Bible Study leader with the campus ministry, CRU. As a woman in physics, She is very interested in supporting gender and racial minorities in STEM and trying to achieve equality of these groups physics and the sciences in general.
